December 2004

Dear Parents,

Happy Holidays and Christmas Greetings!  We are very excited to share with you our plans for elementary chapel during the month of December.  We just completed our Thanksgiving focus and the students and staff decorated a “Thanksgiving Tree” with leaves on which they had written notes of thanks to God for His many blessings.  We will now use the leaves to transition into our December theme which is “God’s Gifts – Our Gifts”.

We will spend two weeks focusing on the gifts God has given us – with Christ being the central gift focus – and the gifts we can give back to Him.  Our focus scripture will be Matthew 25: 31-40.  We will consider why we give gifts, what types of gifts have meaning, and how we give to God.

Our final chapel on December 15 will be a birthday party for Jesus.  At His party we will ask the students to bring an important toy of theirs that is in great shape that they would be willing to share with a less fortunate child.

These gifts will be placed at the manger.  The director of the Gospel Mission will attend the party and receive these gifts on behalf of needy families in the Basin.

Please help your child select an appropriate toy, help them clean it and be sure to label it with age and gender appropriate information.  We would like you to place it in a sack and send it to school with your child during the week of December 5 along with enough wrapping paper to wrap the present.   We DO NOT want you to purchase a new toy; we are helping the children learn to give generously of themselves.

Thank you so much for your support as we begin this valuable lesson!  Please feel free to phone the office with questions or ideas.  As always, we love to hear from you!
