Kindergarten News, October 2004
We are starting to pick up
the pace in Kindergarten. Since September, we have been working on our vowels
and have learned their short sounds and I have introduced 3 consonants. We have begun to put those consonants with
the vowels to make blends. I explained
to the children that a
blend is not a word, it’s just blending 2 sounds together. For eample, ta, te, ti, to and te would be the Tt
blends. La, le,
li, lo
and lu would be the blends for Ll. This is
exciting for the kids. They are seeing
this as a start to reading. It’s thrilling,
and I hope you are excited also. Remember to keep up with the homework to build
their confidence.
I am searching for a parent from the A.M. class
that would be willing to be a room parent.
Shelly Staunton and Shelly Deming have stepped forward to be the P.M.
class room parents. They will share the
responsibilities for that class. Room
parents are responsible for the organization of our 3 class parties: Christmas,
Valentine’s Day & Easter. They help
with the classroom part of our fundraisers, and occasionally do some calling
for the teacher. Being a room parent
does not mean you must do everything, it just means you organize it. If you feel you would be interested, please
notify me.
Hosanna is always looking
for those willing to come and help at our work days. For the most part, we are continuing our
building project with the expansion of the Library and 2 more classrooms. You
do not have to be skilled to volunteer for this. You just need a willing heart. Someone is always there to let you know how
you can help. This is a great way to
become involved and to meet new people. Call the office and ask how you can get
involved!
We will begin the Book-It Program next week (Oct.
11). Book-It is a reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut. It is meant to give
kids the incentive to read. I am asking
that parents read with their child 4 days a week, for 10 minutes. There will be a calendar to chart your
reading that will come home with a note of explanation on Monday. Please return it to me on the last day of the
month. If your goal mentioned above has
been met, I will give your child a coupon for a free personal pizza from Pizza
Hut. It’s a great way to recognize their efforts!
Please watch for information coming home about a
fieldtrip to the Fire Station. I haven’t
confirmed a date or time so I will be sending this information home separately.
I truly love my job of
teaching your children. They brighten
every one of my days. May God grant you
peace and wisdom as you mold them into young adults.
