4th GRADE HAPPENINGS

 

Dear Parents,

 

Fall is here!  The weather has been just beautiful, and your children and I are enjoying being together at school!  This week we will finish up our study of insects.  The collections are awesome!  I hope you had a great time learning with your child.  We will have a special guest speaker come next Wednesday to give a “post-insect study” presentation on honey bees.  He spoke to the class last year and did a wonderful job.

 

We continue to move ahead in math.  We will be finishing up reviewing soon and be on to more difficult (but fun!) multiplication.  Please, please, please, continue to help your children with their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.  This will be a GREAT boost to them as we move on.

 

“Reading is Fun” and “Reading is Thinking” are two of the mottos we try to remember during our reading time.  October begins the first month of our “Book It!” program here at Hosanna.  In the 4th grade, each child is required to read at least one novel a month at home.  You as the parent are privileged to help your child choose a book appropriate to his/her level.  When the book is finished, they will have a special assignment to complete and display about their understanding of the book.  When that is complete, they will receive a coupon for a free personal size pizza!  If it is not done, the student will receive a 0 for the assignment.

 

We will begin a history study of early American explorers and Pacific Northwest Indian tribes.  We will also continue our study of Oregon and take a field trip to Crater Lake.  If you are interested in driving or chaperoning, please let me know!  The more the merrier (and safer!)!!!
